Amargosa Opera House #1 Death Valley Junction, CA The present day Amargosa Opera House and Hotel complex was originally constructed in 1923-1925 by the Pacific Coast Borax Company as part of a company town. The main complex of adobe buildings is a U-shaped Spanish Colonial architecture compound. The most famous resident of Death Valley Junction is Marta Becket. Marta came to the town in 1967, quite by accident, became enamored by the place, and stayed. Ms. Becket, a dancer, has been performing at the Amargosa Opera House every since 1968. All the while she has continued renovations on the opera house and hotel, painstakingly painting exquisite murals throughout. Her fascinating story is well worth researching further.
