Vanishing Grove #1

Redlands, CA

Another orange grove has just fallen to the developer's chainsaw - leaving only fading memories of the once thriving citrus industry of the Redlands area. Several months before, the irrigation water which had sustained the grove for years was shut off, leaving the trees to wither and die. Now, the dead brown trees, complete with a harvest of shriveled fruit, are slashed to be used for firewood and wood chips. Soon, the empty field will be bulldozed and developed into yet another ugly strip mall. Few groves still remain in this area once renown for the citrus industry.
